The New England-friendly U.S. rowing crews continued their advance at the Olympics in beijing on Tuesday. The men’s lightweight four, featuring B.U. grad Will Daly and Harvard grad Patrick Todd, finished third in the repechage and advanced to the semifinals in their event.

The men’s eight, which includes Daniel Walsh (Norwalk, Conn.) and Wyatt Allen (Portland, Maine), won their repechage and moved into the finals in rowing’s marquee event.

One of the more colorful New England characters at the games, weightlifter Carissa Gump of Essex, Vermont, turned in a solid performance in the 63kg class, finishing 14th with a combined lift of 204kg (88kg snatch, 116kg in clean and jerk).
