Pop’ Questions C’s Banners

Posted by Adam Hart November 8, 2008 at 5:54 pm

The Boston Celtics were winning WORLD Championships since before Gregg Popovich was born. No, that’s not true. But they’ve been doing it since before he turned 7. So why’s he got to get all preachy?

Well, it’s probably because he’s sort of right — in a way. Here’s his argument.

The Spurs and most other teams (not the Lakers) hang banners reading “NBA Champions”, not “World Champions” like the C’s. With the emergence of International Basketball, a reasonable person can see his point. But I’m not a person. …Wait, no. I’m not reasonable, but I am a person. Yeah, that’s it.

Anyway, I supposed Pop’ would like it if Major League Baseball changed the name of its championship from the “World Series” to the “Major League Baseball Championship Series”, or MLBCS. Oh, semantics how I love thee so.

Cutting to the chase, here’s a look at both team’s banners:

The less impressive banners of the Spurs
Undisputed World Champions

Anyone else think the Celtics will respond to Popovich by having the banners changed to read “Masters of the Universe”? Then they’d get to fighting Skeletor with Heman.

…….or they could just keep the “World Champions” theme going. Tell me one person who thinks the C’s would not have beaten Team USA if they were pitted against one another in the Olympics? The 2007-2008 Celtics were the best team in the world. Just because Popovich has foreigners Tony Parker and Manu Ginoboli on his team doesn’t mean that changes.
