Ainge is salary cap, revenge mastermind

Posted by Adam Hart July 7, 2008 at 11:06 am

Every Celtics fan old enough to remember knows that when Reggie Lewis died of heart failure while playing a pickup game of basketball, the NBA refused to wipe his salary cap hit clean. It remains one of the greatest injustices ever committed by the David Stern Administration. So what does Danny Ainge do about this? He gets even.

The Oregonian puts this report out there, stemming from the Darius Miles workout at Celtics mini camp last week. Some background information: D-Miles was ruled to have a career-ending knee injury, and had the $27.5 million left on his contract wiped off the salary cap books by the NBA. But, the Blazers lose this cap relief if D-Miles plays at least 10 games over the next 2 seasons. So, either Danny is trying to prove that Mr. Miles is indeed healthy enough to play, or he’s willing to sign the straight-from-high-school-to-the-pros-disappointment and play him for the requisite 10 games before releasing him, just to screw over the Blazers and make things right in the NBA Universe.

This is how you win NBA Championships. This is how you earn redemption for a fallen teammate. With ruthlessness, treachery, and cunning. Bravo, Danny Ainge.

P.S. Tennis is awesome. I have proof.
