Nuggets from Gillette

FOXBOROUGH -- Patriots players are back to work today at Gillette Stadium and media members had access in the locker room this morning (10:45-11:30 a.m.).
The locker room always has a much different look today, the day after the roster is cut down to 53 players. Gone are the temporary blue lockers in the middle of the room which were occupied by the rookies, as those youngsters who made the club now have permanent lockers around the perimeter of the room.
A few nuggets to pass along:

What a thrilling game last night. Despite tired and heavy legs, the Revs - courtesy of Shalrie Joseph - pulled out the draw with a rejuevenated Los Angeles squad in front of an electric crowd 39,000+ at Gillette Stadium. Taylor Twellman’s nose for goal earned him not only his fifth goal of the year - and his 96th career goal - but also five stitches and a pretty swollen cheek.
The Boston Globe had not only a game story, but also a notebook with a few tidbits about Matt Reis, Gabriel Badilla and David Beckham.
The Boston Herald has a game story, while both the Telegram & Gazette and Sun Chronicle also check in with game recaps.
MLSnet.com has both the game story, as well as a sidebar about the Revs’ recent stretch of games.

Sox proving worth vs. Central leaders
Posted by Mark Remme August 31, 2008 at 1:15 am In position to sweep the AL Central-leading White Sox, the Red Sox are showing what they can do against some the best the league has to offer.
League suspends Faulk
Posted by Christopher L. Gasper, Globe Staff August 31, 2008 at 12:00 am Running back Kevin Faulk has been suspended for the Patriots' season opener next Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs and fined one additional game check for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy during the offseason, when he was caught with marijuana at a concert.
Patriots cut Bryant, retain Cassel
Posted by Christopher L. Gasper, Globe Staff August 31, 2008 at 12:00 am Covering up for the departure of Pro Bowl cornerback Asante Samuel is proving a little bit tougher than the Patriots expected, because when the team made its final cuts yesterday it axed cornerback Fernando Bryant, who had started all four exhibition games, the last three in Samuel's old left cornerback spot.
Patriots still are trying to turn the corner here
Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff August 31, 2008 at 12:00 am Every year, it seems, the Patriots make an unexpected cut when it's time to trim rosters to 53 players. This year's was veteran cornerback Fernando Bryant.
Red Sox roll behind Pedroia’s hot bat
Posted by Ian Browne August 30, 2008 at 11:35 pm Dustin Pedroia was a hit machine once again on Saturday, producing four of them for the second night in a row, and leading the Red Sox to an 8-2 victory over the White Sox.
Looks like a win for the kid

We're in the top of the ninth and the Sox lead, 8-2.
Looks like Michael Bowden, who went five innings (two runs, seven hits) will win his major league debut becoming the youngest Sox pitcher since Juan Pena to win his debut. Pena won on May 8, 1999 when he was 21 years and 315 days old. Bowden was 21 years, 356 days tonight.
Another big night for cleanup hitter Dustin Pedroia who has four hits for the second straight night. He became the first Sox hitter with back-to-back four-hit games since Wade Boggs June 8 and 10, 1989. Pedroia has 182 hits, one shy of the Sox record for second baseman set by Del Pratt in 1922. Pedroia was walked intentionally by Ozzie Guillen with a runner on third in an 8-2 game in the eighth. Pedroia reached base 10 consecutive times the last two games -- eight hits and two walks.
Other big nights: Jacoby Ellsbury -- three hits and three runs; Jed Lowrie, 2 RBIs; Mark Kotsay -- three hits, three RBIs; Jason Bay -- 2 RBIs; Jeff Bailey -- home run.
