BALTIMORE - Brian Roberts, hitting lefthanded pitchers at a .302 entering tonight's game, homered to left field in the fifth on a 2-2 pitch for a 3-2 Orioles lead.
Roberts is now 4 for 12 against Lester.
The Sox lefty also allowed a double to Nick Markakis, a walk to Kevin Millar, and a walk to Aubrey Huff to load the bases. But he fanned Ramon Hernandez to get out of the fifth.
Here's more Ellsbury: he's got 18 steals in May, the most by a Sox player in any month since Tommy Harper had 18 in September 1973.
Manny Ramirez hits 500th home run

BALTIMORE (AP) - Manny Ramirez connected for career homer No.
500 on Saturday night, hitting a drive off Baltimore Orioles
right-hander Chad Bradford to become the 24th major leaguer to
reach the milestone.
Ramirez drove the first pitch into the seats in right-center in
the seventh inning. The Red Sox star watched the flight of the
ball, then took off around the bases.
He exchanged a high-five with first base coach Luis Alicea, then
hugged on-deck hitter Mike Lowell as he crossed the plate. Many of
his teammates greeted him as he reached the dugout, where he

BALTIMORE - Jacoby Ellsbury stole second and third in the fifth inning. He's got three stolen bases tonight. Ellsbury has 26 on the season. The steal of third came on a pitchout.
It's 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth. Lester has settled down after allowing two runs in the second inning.
Double PPower

BALTIMORE - Dustin Pedroia and Big Papi have hit back-to-back solo shots in the third tying this one at 2.
Pedroia's, his fourth, was hit to left field on a full count, while Ortiz, his 13th, was struck to center field on an ill-advised 87 mph fastball on a 1-1 pitch right down the middle of the plate. It was the fourth time Sox hitters have hit back-to-back dingers.
The crowd here had flashbulbs going off a mile a minute in anticipation that Manny Ramirez might make it three in a row and also hit his 500th. But Manny grounded out to third to end the inning.
Drew improving but out of lineup
Posted by Ian Browne May 31, 2008 at 8:42 pm There was progress on the J.D. Drew front. When the right fielder woke up on Saturday, he did not feel as though he was sitting on a merry-go-round, as was the case on Friday. Perhaps the condition will lessen to the point that he's available by Sunday.
Lester struggling
Posted by Extra Bases May 31, 2008 at 8:40 pm
BALTIMORE - Jon Lester hasn't been very good since throwing his 7-0 no-hitter against the Royals May 19th. He allowed seven hits and four runs (three earned) in a 6-3 loss to Oakland in his last start and last night trailed 2-0 in the second inning.
Lester retired the side in the first, but got himself in trouble with a walk of Kevin Millar in the second inning. A passed ball by Jason Varitek (which could easily have been scored a wild pitch) advanced the runner. After a strikeout of Aubrey Huff, Ramon Hernandez singled to left and Jay Payton knocked in the first run with a broken bat infield single. That was followed by Adam Jones's single up the middle scoring the second run.
Lester got out of further harm when he threw a 5-3 double-play grounder to Alex Cintron, who is playing shortstop tonight.

BALTIMORE - Jason Varitek broke an 0-for-18 hitless streak with a double past the diving Adam Jones in center field with two outs in the first, but Coco Crisp fanned to end the second inning. The Sox have now stranded runners at third and second in the first two innings.
Ellsbury Show comes up empty

BALTIMORE - Jacoby Ellsbury walked, advanced to second on lefty Garret Olson's errant pick-off throw (yes, another Orioles error), stole third (his 24th), but was stranded when Manny Ramirez's bid for homer No. 500 fell to the warning track in left-center for the third out in the first inning.
The large Boston contingent here at Camden Yards rose to its feet, but the drive was hauled in by Jay Payton to end the inning.
Dice-K to put time on DL to good use
Posted by Ian Browne May 31, 2008 at 7:58 pm As competitive as Daisuke Matsuzaka is, it's not easy for him to find the silver lining in being placed on the disabled list with a right rotator cuff strain. However, he is trying, saying, "I'm going to treat this next little while as a mini-camp and do my best to get better."
Sox alter schedule with Celtics in Finals
Posted by Ian Browne May 31, 2008 at 7:29 pm Recognizing that the Celtics are in the NBA Finals for the first time since 1987 and that Game 1 at TD Banknorth Garden conflicts with a Fenway Park contest against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Red Sox have bumped the start of Thursday night's game to 6:05 p.m. ET, an hour ahead of schedule.
