Extras!

David Ortiz just hit his fifth home run of the season, coming on a 2-0 pitch off Dustin McGowan. The ball landed just over the short fence in right field, before the curve of the park into the right field corner.
It was the Red Sox first extra base hit since Friday, a span of 39 innings. That's a long time...
The Red Sox lead 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh.
Oh, and one out later Mike Lowell added a second extra base hit, in the form of a double to left.
Nine is enough

Daisuke Matsuzaka needed just nine pitches to get three outs in the seventh inning, plowing through Vernon Wells, Lyle Overbay, and Aaron Hill.
It remains scoreless as we head to the bottom of the seventh, the second straight night that the Red Sox and Blue Jays have not scored a run until at least the seventh inning stretch.
Dustin McGowan, who threw just 74 pitches through six innings, is back on the mound for Toronto.
A double!

Of course, it wasn't on the Red Sox side.
Scott Rolen duplicated last night's ninth-inning double with a wall double in the sixth inning. The hit, the third of the game, the first for extra bases, came with two outs in the inning.
Daisuke Matsuzaka, meanwhile, started the sixth inning well under 100 pitches, which is somewhat unusual for him. He finished the inning having thrown 102 pitches, his last a changeup that struck out Matt Stairs swinging.
Manny Delcarmen is warming in the bullpen.
Two in 36

Scoreless through the first four innings, that now means that the Red Sox have scored just two runs over their last 36 innings.
First hit for Daisuke

That single up the middle for Matt Stairs with two outs in the fourth inning was the first hit off Daisuke Matsuzaka this evening.
That gives each team one hit tonight. The score is still nil-nil.

What bum shoulder?
Posted by Extra Bases April 30, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Dustin Pedroia just took to the turf, again, to grab a liner to second base.
Clearly his left shoulder, which he said popped out last night, isn't preventing him from making plays.
It's still 0-0, in the third inning.
Pierce denies gesture was gang symbol
Posted by Boston.com -- Boston Celtics news April 30, 2008 at 8:27 pm Celtics forward Paul Pierce, fined $25,000 for what the NBA called a "menacing gesture" during Game 3 of Boston's playoff series against Atlanta, denied that the sign was gang-related.
Almost…

...an extra base hit.
Adam Lind just made a stellar running catch in the left field corner to take an extra base hit away from David Ortiz. The Red Sox are now up to 34 straight innings without an extra base hit. Their last was Manny Ramirez's fifth-inning double on Friday.
Injury update

There are just so many...
Jacoby Ellsbury said he tweaked his groin on the Evan Longoria home run over the weekend, so clearly that shot hurt the Red Sox in more than one way. Ellsbury said he felt much better today, so he's hoping this won't keep him out too long.
J.D. Drew got treatment today, but they're not sure what the timetable is. It's not worse, but still not good enough for him to be in the lineup today.
As for Dustin Pedroia, Terry Francona said the shoulder issue isn't something he's worried about long-term, even though Pedroia said it tends to happen to him.
"I think when he dives it hurts," Francona said. "You could see him come off the field. You know it was sore. But then he woke up today, he was fine. He was lifting. I don't know that players can give you the exact determination of what happens. I think they just know how it feels.
"My instincts say no [that it might become a bigger problem at some point]. I mean, even after he did it, after he gathered himself, you saw the first swing he took. He wanted to hit it 800 miles."
