Kessel scores twice, Bruins beat Lightning 3-1

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - David Krejci scored a tiebreaking short-handed goal in the third period to lead the Northeast Division-leading Boston Bruins past the Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-1 on Thursday night.

Phil Kessel had two goals, including an empty-netter with less than second remaining, for the Bruins, who are 12-1-1 since the start of November. Tim Thomas made 30 saves to improve to 7-1-1 in his last nine starts.

Martin St. Louis had the Tampa Bay goal. The struggling Lightning have lost six in a row and 13 of 15.

Epstein: Tazawa “pitches with a fearless manner”

(NECN: Boston, MA) - The Boston Red Sox today introduced their newest pitcher, Japan's Junichi Tazawa. Tazawa was at Fenway park this afternoon.

He is just 22-years-old and never played professionally in Japan. He is a righthander who was 13-1 with five saves playing amateur ball last season. He is likely to start in the minor leagues.

Tazawa reportedly gets a three-year deal with the Sox worth $3.3 million. He received offers from many teams, including a higher salary from Texas, but likely chose the Red Sox because of his idol Daisuke Matsuzaka.

Sox finalize deal with Japanese Tazawa

BOSTON (AP) - The Red Sox have landed another Japanese pitcher, completing their contract with right-hander Junichi Tazawa.

The 22-year-old Tazawa spurned professional teams in Japan to pursue a major league career in the United States. Boston planned a Thursday news conference at Fenway Park to announce the deal.

Tazawa is expected to begin next season in the minors for the Red Sox, who already have Japanese pitchers Daisuke Matsuzaka and Hideki Okajima. After winning the 2007 World Series, Boston advanced to Game 7 of the AL championship series this year before

Rondo has triple-double, Celtics win 10th in a row

BOSTON (AP) - Rajon Rondo notched his first career triple-double and Ray Allen scored 31 points, leading the Boston Celtics over the Indiana Pacers, 114-96 on Wednesday night for their 10th straight victory. Rondo scored 16 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and handed out a career-high 17 assists.

Kevin Garnett added 26 points and 14 rebounds for the Celtics, who matched their longest winning streak since their 2007-08 championship season, a 10-game run from Feb. 24-March 12.

Pedroia and Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein today annouced Pedroia has signed a 6-year contract with a club option for the 2015. The deal is reportedly for $40.5 million over six seasons.

(NECN) - There are only four games to go in the regular season for the Patriots. Currently the Pats are on the outside looking in, in regards to the postseason party.

Playoff hopes don't look great for New England, but they do have a favorable schedule remaining. The Patriots could potentially win the remaining games, but be a an eleven win team, that is left out of the playoffs. Are they in or are they out?

Source: Pedroia gets 6 year, $40M deal

BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Red Sox have agreed to terms with AL Most Valuable Player Dustin Pedroia on a six-year contract worth $40.5 million, The Associated Press has learned.

A baseball official familiar with the deal, speaking on the condition of anonymity because it was not yet announced, told the AP that Pedroia would remain with the Red Sox through 2014, with a club option for 2015.

The deal was first reported by ESPN.com.

For Bruins, everyone pitches in on ‘D’

(NECN) - It may not be the most glamorous job -- that of filling the shooting lanes on defense. But it is the job that Bruins coach Claude Julien attributes to much of the team's success on both ends of the ice.

"I think we've improved a lot in that area, as far as blocking shots," Julien said. "Not only that, it's helped our game offensively, because whether it's our forwards or whether it's our defenseman blocking those shots, we're quick on the attack from that."
